Police Investigating Quran Desecration in Malaysia’s Balik Pulau

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Police in Balik Pulau in the Malaysian state of Penang are investigating an incident where burnt fragments of the Quran were found in a toilet at Masjid Umar Al-Khattab, Bayan Baru on Tuesday.

 

Southwest District OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said in the 5.25pm incident, burnt fragments of the religious text was found by a man in a toilet at the mosque.

"The man then informed the mosque security guard.

"After inspection, they found that the fragments were indeed from the Quran," he said in a statement.

Supt Anbalagan said the 56-year-old security guard then reported the incident to the police.

He added that the fragments were not from the Quran in the mosque.

He said the security guard also informed the police that the mosque was popular among the public, especially from Bayan Baru area.

"The mosque even receives people with unstable mind, but it is normal, according to the security guard," he said.

Supt Anbalagan said there are close circuit television (CCTV) at the mosque, but none near the toilet.

Police still investigating the case which has been classified under Section 295 of the Penal Code.
