TEHRAN (IQNA) – All Quranic schools in Morocco and Oman have been closed down amid concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus.

According to shuoon.com website, the Awqaf and Religious Affairs Ministry in Oman announced that all Quranic schools affiliated to the ministry are now closed.

It added, however, that Quranic education continues via distance learning.

The measure has been taken in line with the decision to close all educational centers in the country.

In Morocco, too, the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry announced on Saturday that in order to prevent the spread of the infectious disease, all educational institutes, including Quranic centers will be closed until further notice.

The novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, has infected more than 140,000 people around the world.

The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political activities, with a host of events canceled or postponed.
