The source added that police continue investigation into the incident.

The custodians of holy Shia shrines in Mashhad, Qom and Rey on Monday announced the temporary closure of the shrines over concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The measures were taken at the request of the National Headquarters for Fighting Coronavirus with the aim of preventing further spread of the infectious disease.

According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country has risen to 853 and the total number of confirmed cases to 14, 991.

At least 5,000 patients in Iran have recovered from the disease so far.

Classified a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the new virus, a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year.

It has killed more than 7,000 people globally, and infected nearly 180,000 others, according to the WHO.
