TEHRAN (IQNA) – Quran recitation is played on loudspeakers in mosques across Mauritania 24 hours a day.

The country’s Islamic Affairs Ministry has issued a directive calling on all mosques to play Quran recitation amid the coronavirus outbreak, al-Akhbar news website reported.

It said the move is aimed at seeking Divine Blessings and praying for an end to the pandemic.

At least two Mauritanians have tested positive for the coronavirus and the government has taken precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

They include a temporary closure of mosques and stopping air travels to and from the country.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
