TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the political council of Iraq’s al-Nuajba movement warned against interference by the US and Britain in the upcoming elections in the Arab country.

According to the Communication and Media Affairs Centre of al-‎Nujaba in Iran‌, Hojat-ol-Islam Ali al-Asadi spoke in a televised interview in which he reiterated the movement’s position of refraining from entering the political arena.

“We do not participate in the current political process but we have political activities and we have declared the general characteristics as desirable for selection in the election,” he said.

Noting that the purpose of forming the Political Council of al-Nujaba was to monitor the events and political problems in Iraq, he warned, “Our estimates suggest that the United States and the United Kingdom may interfere in the upcoming Iraqi elections.”

He recalled that the al-Nujaba Movement had previously proposed a comprehensive and coherent plan for the development of social services to Adil Abdul-Mahdi (the former Prime Minister of Iraq) and added, “We also met with Mustafa al-Kadhimi (the interim Prime Minister of Iraq) and he promised reforms but he did not keep his word because he is indebted to internet and Facebook movements, which have brought him to power by creating disturbances on the streets.”

In another part of the conversation, the head of the Political Council of al-Nujaba clarified the occasional attacks on the United States embassy in Baghdad, saying, “Ninety percent of these attacks are not the work of the Islamic Resistance and are carried out by themselves to provoke public opinion.”
