TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussain (AS) holy mausoleum in Karbala, Iraq, announced that it will host congregational prayers again as of Tuesday.

An official with the Astan said on Monday that congregational prayers will be held while complying with the health protocols, including social distancing, masom.imamhussain.org website reported.

He said Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayi, the representative of top Shia cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, will lead the prayers.

The official added that the holy shrine will not host Friday prayers until further notice.

The Astan suspended Friday prayers at the holy mausoleum in March 2020 due to concerns about spread of the coronavirus.
