Islamic Book Fair Kicks Off in London

It was launched today, July 29, at the Islamic Center of England and will run until Monday, August 8.

Those interested can visit the book fair every day from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM and buy the books and cultural products at a 30% discount.

There will also be book contests for children and youth.

The Islamic Center of England also plans to hold mourning rituals starting tonight.

The mourning rights will be organized after the Maghrib and Isha prayers every night until Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram (August 8).

Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Vaezi and Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Hashem Mousavi will deliver speeches at the programs and Hamid Akbari and Ali Mosalaei will recite elegies.

Muharram is the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar. It will begin on Saturday, July 30, this year.

Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Muawiya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
