TEHRAN (IQNA) – Invitations have been sent to more than 120 countries for participation in the upcoming edition of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition, an official said.

Iran’s Supreme Headquarters of Coordination of Quranic Competitions

Hamid Majidimehr, who is the secretary of Iran’s Supreme Headquarters of Coordination of Quranic Competitions, made the remark in a meeting of the headquarters in Tehran on Sunday.

He said the countries have been invited to introduce their representatives for attending the 39th edition of the contest.

Majidimehr said the highest number of countries taking part in the Quranic event is 84, adding, “We hope this record will be broken and we will witness the presence of representatives from 90 countries in this edition”.

He noted that after initial qualification process is over, the preliminary round of the competition is set to be held in the holy city of Mashhad in late December.

The final round will be organized in person on the occasion of Mab’ath, which falls in mid-February 2023, the official stated. Mab’ath marks the anniversary of the day Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was chosen as God’s messenger.

Majidimehr described Iran’s competition as the largest and most credited international Quranic contest in the world in terms of not only the number of contenders but also its organization and its technical aspects.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization holds the competition annually with the participation of Quran reciters and memorizers from various countries.

A total of 62 qaris and memorizers from 29 countries competed in the final round of the last edition, which was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.
