TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian military commander says there has been a growth in training Quran memorizers in the armed forces.

“From the armed forces’ share of training 10 million Quran memorizers in Iran, a %45 growth has been registered in the past two years and the plan is going on according to a suitable timetable,” Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said on Sunday.

He made the remarks while addressing an exhibition that opened on the same day in Iran Army’s headquarters, putting on display the Quranic achievements of the Iranian armed forces.

Back in 2011, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the society should take a direction so that at least 10 million people learn the Holy Quran by heart.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Baqeri said that the armed forces have also implemented various programs for the promotion of Quran recitation, memorization, understanding, interpretation, and contemplation for all the forces and their families.

Pointing to the significant number of Quranic theses in the Armed Forces’ universities, the commander said various Quranic competitions have been also held across the country and that these plans and events should be seriously maintained in the future.
