TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Mauritanian charity society plans to set up a center in the Gaza Strip for teaching the Quran and Sunnah.

The secretary general of the National Society for Supporting the Palestinian Nation announced the plan in a ceremony in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania.

It was attended by the Palestinian ambassador to the African country as well as a number of Mauritanian scholars, Al-Akhabr daily reported.

Sheikhani ould Baib, the society’s secretary general, said the project will be implemented in memory of Eng. Saad Buah al-Shanqiti, who had been a member of many charity societies that support Palestine.

He said the center will serve as an inclusive platform for teaching the Holy Quran and Nabawi Sunnah’s sciences in the Gaza Strip.

He also described Gaza as the land of Jihad and struggle against occupation and siege.

Muhammad Abusaqar, head of the Palestine Cultural-Sceintific Center in Mauritania, was another speaker at the event.

He said heling Palestine would not be possible without taking recourse to the Quran and Sunnah.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.

Quranic activities and programs are very popular in the African country.
