TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Headquarters for Commemorating Imam Khomeini (RA) invited all groups of Iranian people to take part in ceremonies marking the 34th demise anniversary of the founder of the Islamic Republic.

In a statement, the headquarters called on people, institutions, organizations, political parties, academics, thinkers, scholars, athletes and other groups of people to participate in the programs scheduled to be organized on the sad occasion.

It also said that with the easing of the coronavirus pandemic, the headquarters is ready to hold the programs more magnificently throughout the country this year.

A large number of people are expected to gather at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, south of Tehran, early next month to pay tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic and renew allegiance with his ideals.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Moussavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini, engineered Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran.

Born in 1902, he grew to become the iconic leader of the Iranian nation’s struggle in the 1970s against the centuries-old monarchical tyranny.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87.
