Sheikh Khader Adnan, an activist affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement, passed away in an Israeli prison on Tuesday after nearly three months on hunger strike.

In a statement on Tuesday, Hezbollah offered condolences and congratulations to the Islamic Jihad and all Palestinians over the martyrdom of Sheikh Adnan.

Hezbollah said Sheikh Adnan achieved martyrdom after years of resistance and steadfastness in the struggle against the Zionist enemy.

It added that the martyrdom of Sheikh Adnan demonstrated the tragic situation of Palestinian and Arabs being held in the Israeli regime’s jails.

The Lebanese group also expressed sympathy with the family of the martyr and said it will support all measures by Palestinian resistance movements in response to the Israeli crime and efforts for the release of prisoners.

The Islamic Jihad and the Arab League in separate statements lauded the martyr as an example of fortitude, Jihad, resistance and defending the dignity of the oppressed Palestinian nation.

They also called for international investigations into the death of Sheikh Adnan.

In a telephone conversation with Islamic Jihad official, Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh condoled the martyrdom of Sheikh Adnan and underlined that the path of Jihad, martyrdom and resistance will continue.

Sheikh Adnan died in an Israeli prison after nearly three months on a hunger strike.

He “refused to undergo medical tests and receive medical treatment” and “was found unconscious in his cell” in the early morning on Tuesday, the Zionist regime’s prison service said.

Adnan began his hunger strike shortly after being arrested on February 5.

He had gone on hunger strike several times after previous arrests, including a 55-day strike in 2015 to protest his arrest under so-called administrative detention, in which suspects are held indefinitely by the Israeli regime without charge or trial.
