Representatives of 64 Countries Expected at Quran Recitation Program in Egypt

IQNA – Egypt’s Awqaf ministry plans to organize a Khatm Quran (recitation of the Holy Book from the beginning to the end) next week.

It will be held on the sidelines of Egypt’s 30^th international Holy Quran competition, with the participation of representatives from 64 countries.   

The participants will recite the Quran in the Warsh from Nafi narration.

Top Egyptian qaris scheduled to take part in the Khatm Quran event include Ahmed Ahmed Nuaina, Taha Numani, Ahmed Tamim al-Maraghi, Mohamed Fathallah Bibris, Yusuf Qassim Halawah, Fathi Khalif, and Mahmoud Ali Hassan.

This is the third Khatm Quran program in Warsh from Nafi narration organized in Egypt this year.

The Warsh from Nafi narration used to be the common narration in Egypt but after the Ottoman conquest, it was gradually replaced by the Hafs from Asim narration.

Today, the Warsh from Nafi narration is common in other North African countries as well as Wes Africa.

The 30th edition of Egypt’s international Holy Quran competition will get underway on Saturday, December 23.

The Dar-ul-Quran Center of the Masjid Misr in Egypt’s new administrative capital will host the event.
