Algerian Scholar Highlights Imam Khomeini’s Views on Status of Women
Noura Farhat made the remark in an address to an online seminar held on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
The webinar was organized by the International Quran News Agency (IQNA) on Tuesday under the title of “Model Woman of Islamic Revolution; Self-Esteem and Revival of Muslim Identity.”
Farhat said Imam Khomeini viewed women as one of the pillars of the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and its continuation.
His views on women originated from the Islamic teachings and the status of Hazrat Zahra (SA), she stated.
Imam Khomeini highlighted outstanding examples from the Seerah of Hazrat Zahra (SA) as an all-out model for humanity and especially for women to follow, she added.
The scholar went on to say that Imam Khomeini’s naming of Hazrat Zahra’s (AS) birth anniversary as the World Woman’s Day was because the beloved daughter of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is a role model for all women.
Imam Khomeini wanted women to gain a status like that of Hazrat Zahra (SA) based on divine teachings and the presence of God in life and it is with such a role model that creation of civilization can be achieved, she said.
Farhat also referred to Imam Khomeini’s idea on education for women and said he believed that learning is an act of worship both for men and women.
The late founder of the Islamic Revolution felt proud of the role that women played in educational fields in the Islamic Republic of Iran, she noted.

From the viewpoint of Imam Khomeini, women play an important role as mothers and pillars of family in raising righteous children, she added.
According to Farhat, Imam Khomeini also attached importance to the presence of women in social and political scenes and in contributing to the development of their country.
Elsewhere in her remarks, the Algerian scholar congratulated the anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution and described it as a victory for the entire Muslim Ummah.
The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime on February 11, 1979, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
The Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.
Iranian women have made significant achievements since the victory of the revolution. They have been given equal rights to shape their futures. The revolution also provided them a chance to build their distinct political identity and they have been tremendously successful in doing that.
