IQNA – The 9th edition of the International Conference of Expatriate Mujahideen is set to open in the Syrian capital of Damascus next week.

The International Conference of Expatriate Mujahideen will take place abroad for the first time, said Hossein Akbari, Iran’s Ambassador to Syria and head of the policy committee of the conference.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said that the event’s inaugural will be held in Syria’s Damascus, which he described as “the capital of supporting resistance.”

Last year, the eighth edition of the conference was hosted in Mashhad, he added.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for June 7 in Damascus, will pay tribute to the martyrs Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian, he added, noting that distinguished political and cultural figures from multiple countries are expected to attend.

This year, the 9th edition of this conference will center around the topic of Palestine and the pivotal role played by influential figures from the Islamic world, including martyrs Ebrahim Raisi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in supporting the Palestinians, according to Akbari.

Various domestic and international programs have been designed accordingly, he added.

The late Iranian foreign minister had consistently advocated for holding these meetings despite his busy schedule and was the keynote speaker during the opening session of the previous edition of the event, Akbari added.

The diplomat noted that a separate ceremony is set to be held on July 29 at the University of Tehran to honor three decades of Amir-Abdollahian’s contributions to advancing the policies of the Islamic system. Political personalities from friendly and brotherly countries will be in attendance, he added.

The International Conference of Expatriate Mujahideen will conclude on the night of the martyrdom of Imam Hassan Askari (AS) on September 11, 2024, in Mashhad, he said.
