IQNA – Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the prominent Shia religious authority, praised the Tasnim Exegesis of the Quran authored by Iranian scholar Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli, calling it "a source of pride for the Shia."

Ayatollah Sistani Praises Tasnim Quranic Exegesis as a ‘Source of Pride for Shia’

He made the statement in a Monday meeting with Ayatollah Javadi Amoli in Najaf. According to a report by his official website, the two scholars discussed various topics related to Islamic sciences, ethics, and the broader Muslim world in a cordial and scholarly setting.

Welcoming his guest, Ayatollah Sistani expressed appreciation for the decades-long scholarly efforts behind Tasnim, stating: “You have spent 40 years with the Holy Quran and have worked hard. This work is a source of pride for Shia Islam.”

The Tasnim Exegesis is considered one of the most comprehensive contemporary commentaries on the Quran in the Islamic world. Spanning 80 volumes, it integrates classical and modern methodologies, drawing from linguistic, philosophical, theological, and mystical traditions. It follows the “Quran by Quran” method, presenting each selected verse through four stages: a summarized explanation, detailed interpretation, reflective insights, and analysis based on Hadith.

Ayatollah Sistani also emphasized the central role of the Quran in Islamic thought, saying: “The Quran is the foundation. The narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) must be evaluated in light of the Quran, and only those consistent with it are reliable.”

He added that there is no distinction in his view between the seminaries in Qom and Najaf, and expressed a commitment to support religious institutions to the best of his ability.

He added that Sistani’s guidance during critical times—especially in confronting extremist groups like Daesh—has left a lasting legacy.

He pointed to the importance of increased collaboration between religious seminaries across borders and expressed gratitude for Ayatollah Sistani’s continued support of Islamic education.
