In a statement shared Monday on X, the IOM described displacement in Gaza as a “constant,” raising alarm over the worsening humanitarian crisis.

The agency also expressed concern over the use of humanitarian aid as a means to influence population movement, stating, “Humanitarian aid must never be used to influence the movement of people.”

Reaffirming its commitment to working with partners to assist displaced communities, the organization renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire and safe, sustained humanitarian access.

Alongside active brutal bombardments, Israeli forces have issued displacement orders that have forced thousands more Palestinians from their homes.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted that these orders are being issued “as populations across Gaza are at risk of famine and one in every five people faces starvation.”

UN Women, the United Nations agency for gender equality, has reported that more than 28,000 women and girls have been killed in Gaza since the onset of Israel’s military campaign in October 2023.

According to the agency, “That is one woman and one girl on average killed every hour in attacks by Israeli forces.”

Many of the deceased were mothers, the statement added, leaving behind grieving families and shattered communities.

The UN agency called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all Israeli hostages, and the “immediate restoration of unhindered humanitarian access.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which provides support to Palestinian refugees, said in a statement that 92% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed due to ongoing air and ground assaults by Israeli forces.

“Families in Gaza face unimaginable devastation,” the agency said Monday. It also noted that shelter is increasingly scarce, with many individuals and families having been displaced multiple times.

Israel resumed its bombardment of Gaza on March 18, following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire agreement with Hamas that had included the exchange of captives. Since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023, at least 53,486 Palestinians have been killed, with the majority being women and children, and over 121,000 others have been injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.

The continued Israeli aggression comes as in November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also the subject of a genocide case currently under review at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
