This is according to Nasser Abu Sharif, representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement in Iran, speaking in an interview with IQNA on the anniversary of the former Iranian president’s martyrdom.

President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and their accompanying delegation lost their lives after the helicopter carrying them crashed in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan due to harsh weather conditions on May 19, 2024.

Abu Sharif said Martyr Raisi’s stances established his role as a politician committed to defending the rights of oppressed peoples against injustice and occupation.

He said that after the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation against the Israeli regime, Martyr Raisi played a key role in defending Gaza and the people of Palestine in the face of Israeli aggression, which can be described as a war aimed at exterminating the Palestinian people.

He highlighted steadfastness, emphasizing national dignity and independence, commitment to Islamic values and connection with people as some of the characteristics of Ayatollah Raisi.

“Martyr Raisi was fully committed to his work and did not shy away from trying to achieve his goals, whether in relation to Iran or general Islamic issues. He also had extraordinary energy and vitality. His continuous travels and numerous commutes both inside and outside of Iran testify to his energy and iron will in carrying out his duties.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Abu Sharif highlighted the former Iranian president’s efforts to serve and defend the Holy Quran, including at the UN.

“Martyr Raisi’s move to raise a copy of the Quran at the United Nations was a strong message and a demonstration of his deep commitment to Islamic values. The defense of the sanctity of the Quran was not only a religious gesture, but also an expression of the steadfastness and will of the Islamic Ummah against the oppressive powers of the world.”
