Muslim Unity Surges After Iran’s Operation Against Israel: Cleric
This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Hamidreza Gharibreza, director of the Institute for Interreligious Dialogue on Unity, who made the statements in a session in Qom on Monday.
Gharibreza criticized Western strategies that separate religion from politics. He said Western thinkers, having identified fault lines in religion, “studied and negatively exploited” them—leading to the Sykes–Picot Agreement during World War I, which carved up the Ottoman Empire.
He explained that the agreement drew borders along ethnic fault lines but he argued these divisions were upended by the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which promoted Islamic unity.
Gharibreza pointed to the 2006 Israeli war with Hezbollah, highlighting that the then U.S. Secretary of State framed it as heralding a “new Middle East.” But he said the war “though meant to create a new Middle East, instead saw the rise of the Resistance Axis and confrontation with the Zionist regime.”
He added that Operation True Promise III unleashed the suppressed frustrations of the Islamic community toward the West. “Muslims worldwide dream of a renewed golden age of Islam,” he said.

He identified two major shifts following the Islamic Revolution: first, “leading Sunni figures in Muslim countries” converting to Shiism; second, the emergence of “political Shiism”, modeled after the revolution and the ethos of Ashura.
He warned that these developments triggered waves of Iranophobia and Shiaphobia, stoked by Western powers and some Arab governments.
He declared that when Operation True Promise III was executed, “the Arab and Islamic world was stunned. They protested their leaders, and a massive wave of support emerged for Iran’s strike on Israel”.
He said the operation had unleashed an “unprecedented spiritual and ideological transformation” in favor of Iran and Shiism.
“An Iranian missile today is a hundred times more effective than any Islamic unity conference,” he insisted.
“The Arab world has changed upon witnessing Iran’s sincerity in its war with Israel. Ultimately, the broader Muslim world—and especially the Arab world—is now ready to engage in rapprochement with Iran.”
