IQNA – Egypt’s Ministry of Religious Endowments has announced the start of the 32nd International Quran Competition in the memorization and interpretation section, taking place in Cairo from June 29 to July 6, 2025.

The Egyptian Ministry of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) has officially launched the competition, with the written exams running from Sunday, June 29 to Sunday, July 6, 2025, Sada El-Balad reported on Thursday.

The tests are being held at Al-Nour Mosque in Cairo’s Abbasiya district and are seeing wide participation from qualified contestants across Egypt’s governorates and diverse categories.

Eight branches are featured in the competition, each designed to serve different categories:

  1. Full Quran memorization with interpretation and reasons for revelation, open to participants who are not imams, preachers, or faculty members.
  2. Non-Arabic speakers competing in Quran memorization.
  3. Imams, female preachers, and university faculty members.
  4. Younger participants, with a focus on the last two parts of the Quran and basic interpretation.
  5. Beautiful recitation and voice (tajweed).
  6. Participants with disabilities (people of determination).
  7. Quran-committed families demonstrating memorization across family members.
  8. Qira’at (Quranic readings), focusing on the seven readings.

The ministry reiterated that the competition is open to both men and women but warned that “any contestant failing to meet the eligibility criteria at any stage will be disqualified.”

Other categories of the competition are set to be held in December.
