Iranian Quranic Figures Call on Egyptian Qaris to Stand Up for Gaza
The letter, penned amid ongoing humanitarian horrors, urges influential Quran reciters of Egypt to mobilize support for the besieged Palestinians.
Following are excerpts from the letter:
“In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
“This Quran shows the way to that which is the most upright.” (Verse 9 of Surah Al-Isra)
We, the community of Quran reciters in the Islamic Republic of Iran, write this letter out of deep concern and compassion for the Islamic Ummah—a shared pain that has wounded the heart of every faithful and freedom-loving believer these days.
Gaza is the most wounded part of the Ummah today, suffocating under the rubble of siege and war.
Helpless children, starving women, the injured without medicine or shelter—this is the image of Gaza today.
Now is the time for the voice of the Quran to be heard not only from our throats but also through our stance:
“Why do you not fight for the cause of God or save the helpless men, women, and children who cry out, ‘Lord, set us free from this town of wrong doers and send us a guardian and a helper?’” (Verse 75 of Surah An-Nisa)
Among the crucial ways to save Gaza is opening the Rafah crossing—a lifeline whose closure has stolen Gaza’s chance to breathe. If this passage is opened, not only food and medicine but also hope will enter Gaza.
And we know that you, the esteemed Quranic figures of Egypt, hold a special position in the public conscience, religious institutions, and even the decision-making circles of your country.
Let us make the voice of the Quran heard this time—not only through recitation but through action and standing alongside the oppressed.”
