
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, the president of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), met with Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) in Tehran.
According to WFPIST public relation office, Hojat-ol-Islam Shahriari thanked Abdul Hamid for his trip to Iran and his valuable speech at a conference recently held in Tehran on the “People’s Rights and Legitimate Freedoms in the Thought of Ayatollah Khamenei”.
He said the WFPIST is interested in holding an international conference in Malaysia focusing on issues related to Islamic unity and proximity, especially the issue of Palestine and its role in strengthening Muslim unity.
He said the forum is fully prepared to cooperate with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations in this regard.
Abdul Hamid, for his part, welcomed the idea and considered holding such a conference in Malaysia effective, fruitful and based on the needs of the region.
He said the issue of Palestine can be an important connecting point for entering into discussions of unity and proximity in this region.

In addition to the issue of Palestine, the problems of Muslims in Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines can also be part of discussions on Islamic unity, because Muslims in these countries face serious challenges, he stated.
Abdul Hamid added that addressing the issue of Islamic unity in the Southeast Asia region is of great importance.
In order to further enrich the goals of Islamic unity and proximity, efforts will be made to bring together prominent scholars and thinkers from Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries, as well as scholars from Iran, in this conference to discuss unity and proximity in religious thoughts.
