Egyptian Quran Reciter’s Dream Is to Teach at Al-Azhar University

IQNA – The first prize winner of Egypt’s international Quran competition said she dreams of working as an educational assistant at Al-Azhar University to serve the Quran and Quranic sciences.

Rukia Rifat Abdel Bari came first in the category of memorizing the Quran through Hafs and Tajweed in the women’s section of Egypt’s 32nd international Quran competition (December 2025).

Speaking to El-Balad, she said, “I started memorizing the Quran at the age of 5 and finished it at the age of 10.”

She added, “I graduated from the Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies at Al-Azhar University in Alexandria and received a medal of honor in 2018.”

The Egyptian reciter said she hopes that Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, will issue a decree appointing her as an educational assistant at the university so that she can continue to serve the religion, the Holy Quran and its sciences.

Asked about her family life, Rukia said, “I am married and 29 years old. I have two sons, seven and three years old, named Muhammad and Yazan, and I teach them the Quran.”

This Egyptian lady added, “I review my memorizations daily and review the entire Holy Quran twice a month, and on competition days I consolidate my memorization every two or four days.”

She also referred to her successes in competitions, saying, “Thank God, I have received many awards in (competitions in) Egypt and abroad.”

She noted that her younger sister is also a memorizer of the entire Quran.

The 32nd international Quran competition of Egypt was held by the country’s ministry of Awqaf from December 6 to 10, 2025, and Egyptian contestants won the top ranks.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is planned to honor the top winners of this competition on the Night of Qadr in the holy month of Ramadan, presenting them cash prizes and certificates of appreciation.
