According to Palestinian sources, the raid on the holy site by the settlers was carried out with the support of Zionist police forces, Al Jazeera reported.
The settlers performed Talmudic rituals and made provocative moves in the courtyards of the mosques.
Meanwhile, the occupation regime’s police placed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshippers, making some arrests outside of the mosque’s gates.
The raids by Israeli settlers and violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque has increased significantly since October last year, with the Palestinian Information Center reporting 408 violations by the settlers and regime forces.
Rights groups have condemned the moves as breach of international laws and conventions but there has been little international pressure to forces the Zionist regime to stop these provocations.
Last year, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion declaring Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and urging the dismantling of settlements in both the West Bank and al-Quds.
