
Representatives from 30 countries are taking part in this edition of the contest, Cairo24 website reported.
There are 42 qaris, Quran memorizers and Ibtihal reciters taking part in the contest.
The competition is named after the late Egyptian reciter Sheikh Mahmoud Ali Al-Banna in honor of his lasting services to the Holy Quran.
The first day of the competition included Friday prayers at the Al-Salam Mosque in Port Said and various recitations of the Quran, supplications, and religious songs in a number of squares and streets in the city.
The official opening ceremony was held at 6:00 PM local time in the presence of the Egyptian Awqaf minister, the governor of Port Said, Al-Azhar officials, and a number of senior officials.

The event has been organized with the support of Mustafa Madbouly, the prime minister of Egypt.
The Port Said Quran competition will continue until February 2, 2026, and participants will compete in the fields of memorization, recitation, and Ibtihal.
