
As the month of Muharram approaches, more than 700 permits have been issued for setting up Moukebs in Karbala for serving Muharram mourners in Karbala.
Moukebs are voluntary service stations that offer food, shelter, and medical aid to pilgrims and mourners free of charge.
The Husseini Rituals and Processions Department affiliated with the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine announced the issuance of 746 permits for setting up Moukebs for Ashura mourning ceremonies.
It said also that 14,000 Moukebs will serve pilgrims in this year’s Arbaeen procession.
Mohammad Karim Aziz, head of the department, stated in an interview with the Noon News Agency that the department has completed the initial preparations for commemorating the first 10 days of Muharram and the Ashura mourning rituals.
It has formed a special committee to organize the granting of official permits, he noted.

This came after a meeting held by Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, Hassan Rashid Al-Abaji and members of the board of directors, and heads of departments, Aziz said.
According to him, in this meeting, the preparations for the first ten days of Muharram were agreed upon.

The programs will begin on the eve of Muharram with the mourning flag-changing ceremony and continue until the tenth day with the Tuwairij rituals.
The day of Ashura is the 10th day of the Islamic lunar month of Muharram, and it is a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
This year, Ashura falls on Thursday, June 25.
