Flowers Showered on Martyred Leader’s Coffin at Karbala Shrine

IQNA – The coffin of the martyred Imam of the Islamic Ummah, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei was showered with flowers at the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, on Wednesday evening.

After offering prayers and circumambulating the shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), the coffin of martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei entered the shrine of Qamar Bani Hashim, Hazrat Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (AS) and was showered with flowers by the mourning pilgrims.

Then, Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad al-Safi, the representative of the Shai religious authority and custodian of the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) led the funeral prayers for the martyred Leader.

The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) announced that the number of people present at the funeral ceremony of the martyred Leader in Karbala exceeded 4 million people.

Iraqi authorities had declared a public holiday to allow for the massive turnout.

Earlier, a similar procession was held in the holy city of Najaf, where the scale of the turnout was described as unprecedented, as many mourners had traveled overnight from across Iraq and beyond.
