Najaf Shrine Hosts Specialized Manuscript Restoration Training

IQNA – A specialized training course in manuscript restoration and preservation was held at the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, for students of the University of Kufa’s Faculty of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage.

The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine organized the course, according to the website of the Astan.       

It was held in line with continuing efforts to preserve cultural heritage and strengthen scientific and cultural cooperation between the various departments of the Astan and Iraqi universities.

The Astan’s Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department, through the Alawi Treasury Department, hosted a group of manuscript students of the Faculty of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage of the University of Kufa to participate in the specialized training course on the preservation, maintenance, and restoration of manuscripts.

Ammar Mashaallah, Deputy Head of the Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department, said this program was held with the aim of raising students' awareness and familiarizing them with the historical and heritage value of these exquisite works, as well as explaining their role in protecting these treasures and passing them on to future generations.

This course included educational sessions on the knowledge of manuscripts and methods of preserving them, as well as practical workshops on the restoration of manuscripts, he noted.

It took place within the framework of the Astan’s strategy to support scientific and cultural projects and train specialized personnel who can play a role in preserving, safeguarding, and serving Islamic heritage, commensurate with its historical and spiritual status.
