IQNA – The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement stressed that the movement is trying to reach an agreement that, while reducing the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, also preserves national rights and the resistance.

Ali Abu Shaheen

Ali Abu Shaheen, a member of the political bureau of Islamic Jihad, said the movement has demanded that for every commitment made by the resistance groups, a similar and clear commitment be made from the Zionist side, and that all clauses of the agreement be binding on both sides, the Palestine Information Center reported.

Abu Shaheen said Islamic Jihad has serious reservations about the current text of the draft that has been published in the media, because this text does not include the terms and conditions demanded by the movement.

He stated that negotiations between the two sides, namely the resistance and the Zionist regime, are ongoing; therefore, the text of the agreement must be balanced and binding on both sides, rather than obliging only one side to implement the commitments.

This member of the Islamic Jihad political bureau also emphasized that the published document is merely a draft that was published in the media before a final agreement was reached.

Abu Shaheen added that the lack of clear guarantees to oblige the Zionist regime to fulfill its obligations is the most important reason for Islamic Jihad’s reservations about the published draft.
