Mauritania Muslims Condemn Desecration of Islamic Sanctities

Muslims held a rally in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott on Friday in protest to desecration of Islamic sanctities.

They staged the rally after Friday prayers, condemning the publication of an article that insulted Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), fr.alakhbar website reported.

The article had been published in one of the country’s newspapers by the son of the governor of Nouadhibou city.

The demonstrators carried banners reading “Punish those who desecrated Islam” and “Stop insulting”.

They called for the author of the insulting article to be brought to justice and urged the country’s officials to introduce stricter laws against such insulting acts.

Mauritania’s security forces are reported to have arrested the author of the article on charges of insulting Islamic sanctities.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in West Africa. Almost all residents of the country are Muslims.
