Issuing a statement, the ministry said attacking mosques and desecrating the Quran (which took place a few weeks ago) are actions aimed at fomenting discord and diverting the course of the revolution.
It called on prayer leaders to clarify the importance of mosques and pilgrimage sites in their sermons and urge people to protect religious centers.
The Religious Affairs Ministry also urged security officials to identify and arrest those who perpetrated the acts of desecrating Islamic sanctities.
Since the victory of Tunisia’s popular uprising against the despotic rule of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, some elements within the Tunisian society have tried to divide the society by attacking religious sites and defiling Muslim sanctities.
