Speaking in a weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Esmaeil Baghaei explained the latest consultations between Tehran and Baghdad to hold the funeral ceremony of the martyred Leader of the revolution.
He said holding this ceremony will carry important messages for the region, and its most important message is to demonstrate the deep bond and solidarity between the nations of Iran and Iraq.
The Iraqi people, like the Iranian people, are mourning the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and their presence at this ceremony will be a symbol of this empathy and companionship, he stated.
The spokesman said the ceremony is not simply a national ritual, but is considered an important and historical event for the Iranian nation and the people of the region.
One of the main goals of the Iranian foreign minister’s recent visit to Iraq was to make the necessary coordination to hold this ceremony, he noted.
Referring to the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq, he said the ties between the two countries are based on historical, cultural, religious and people-to-people commonalities and are of great depth and strength.
“The change of governments in the two countries will not have any impact on the process of friendly relations between Tehran and Baghdad, and the two sides have always used the existing capacities to develop cooperation and deepen relations.”
