Int’l Quranic Festival Begins in Iraq

The first international Quran festival titled “Said Bin Jubayr” began in Wasit province on Tuesday, March 5.
20 countries including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Kenya, Malaysia, Kuwait, Lebanon and Syria are taking part in the festival, Bratha news agency reported.
It includes Quran recitation sessions, lectures and art activities.
Head of Iraqi Shi’ites’ Awqaf Department Sayyed Saleh Al-Heydari, president of the country’s Supreme Islamic Council Sheikh Hamam Hamoudi, and a number of other religious figures and officials attended the opening ceremony.
Mahmoud Abdul-Reza, head of the provincial council in Wasit addressed the opening ceremony, saying that such programs are venues in which Muslims gather together around the Islamic motto of La Ilaha Illa Allah, Muhammad Rasul Allah, (There is no God but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of God).
He added that the festival aims promote the Quranic culture and introduce different aspects of the character of Said Bin Jubayr, was a prominent student of Imam Sadeq (AS).
A Quran interpretation center named after Said Bin Jubayr will also be inaugurated during the festival, he noted.
The festival will conclude on Thursday, March 7.
