Iranian FM: Martyred Leader Turned Diplomacy into a Symbol of National Dignity
In a commemorative essay published as part of the 'Imam Mojahid Shahid' memorial collection by the Institute for Research on the Islamic Revolution's Culture, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the martyred Leader as the architect of a foreign policy founded on independence, dignity, and "resistance diplomacy," arguing that his legacy will continue to shape the Islamic Republic's international engagement.
Araghchi said the leader elevated diplomacy beyond "cold power politics" and transformed it into "the language of a nation's dignity."
According to Araghchi, recent military conflicts involving the United States and the Israeli regime demonstrated that diplomacy is not merely a tool for managing international relations but "a reflection of national identity and collective will."
He said Ayatollah Khamenei's foreign policy doctrine was rooted in the principle of independence, active and influential participation in international affairs without dependence on foreign powers.
Araghchi stressed that Iran's diplomacy seeks to preserve its core principles while remaining open to dialogue with the international community.
The foreign minister argued that Ayatollah Khamenei's strategic approach combined idealism with realism, enabling Iran to maintain its principles while pursuing "wise, flexible and effective" diplomacy under sanctions, pressure, threats, and war.
Araghchi also highlighted the concepts of "dignified engagement" and "smart jihad diplomacy," saying they allowed Iran to negotiate from a position of strength rather than weakness while safeguarding national interests.
He further said the leader's vision shaped a "resistance-oriented diplomacy," based on independence, resilience, and the use of diplomatic tools alongside steadfastness.
According to Araghchi, this approach enabled the Axis of Resistance to pursue strategic objectives while increasing the costs of external pressure and maintaining an influential regional role.
Concluding his essay, Araghchi said Ayatollah Khamenei's diplomatic legacy is "not merely a historical memory but a living roadmap for the future," adding that Iran's foreign policy will continue to be guided by his vision of diplomacy based on "dignity, wisdom, and steadfastness."
