TEHRAN (IQNA) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the Saudi rulers must apologize for the Mina tragedy.

A crush of people killed around 2,000 Muslim pilgrims, including over 136 Iranians, in Mina, near Makkah, on Thursday, during the Hajj rituals.

Ayatollah Khamenei on Sunday underlined that the Saudis must apologize to the Muslim Ummah and the families of the victims and accept their heavy responsibility in the tragic event, the website of the Leader’s office reported.

The Muslim world has many questions over this tragedy, the Supreme Leader added.

“This issue will not be forgotten and (Muslim) nations will pursue it,” Ayatollah Khamenei went on to say.

On Thursday, the Supreme Leader in a message declared three days of national mourning, saying the disaster created a “great grief” in the Islamic world.
