So far, the bodies of 399 Iranian victims of the tragic incident have been repatriated.
The crush took place on September 24 after two large masses of Hajj pilgrims converged at a crossroads in Mina, a few kilometers east of the holy city of Makkah, during the symbolic ceremony of the stoning of Satan in Jamarat.
Saudi Arabia claims nearly 770 people were killed in the incident, but officials at Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization say about 4,700 people, including 465 Iranians, lost their lives in the tragedy.
More than 60 Iranian pilgrims are still missing following the disaster.
Iranian officials have said that Tehran is resolved to shed light on the fate of all pilgrims unaccounted for.
Iran says Saudi Arabia’s incompetence in handling the safety at the rituals caused the deadly incident. Riyadh has so far refused to accept responsibility or apologize for the deadly incident.
