Speaking to IQNA, Master Abdul Fattah Tarouti, who is a prominent Quran reciter in the Muslim world and has served as member of the jury panels in various international Quran competitions in countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, expressed condolences over the death of Master Qalwash and said Egypt lost one of its leading Quranic figures.
Qalwash died on Thursday at the age of 77 after a long illness.
He was a senior member of the Arab country’s Quran Reciters and Memorizers Association.
Master Tarouti said Qalwash was among the pioneers of Quran recitation styles and the current generation of Egypt’s Qaris benefited and learned a lot from his style and skills.
He influenced all of Quran reciters in Egypt after him, Tarouti stated, adding that he was a link between new generation of Qaris with the old generation and such prominent masters like Mustafa Ismail and Minshawi.
He described it as an honor for him and other Qaris to live in a time when such eminent masters like Qalwash have lived.
Tarouti noted that Qalwash had learned Quran recitation with Master Mustafa Ismail and, thus, his style was like his master.
"However, Master Qalwash brought new innovations and changes to that style which were unprecedented.”
