TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Indonesian political analyst said the upcoming OIC Summit in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta is an opportunity for an independent Palestinian state.

Yun Shamoudi said the issue of Palestine is a serious issue that needs to be resolved in a just and fair manner.

All members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have a moral responsibility to work for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, he added, IINA reported.

The 5th Extraordinary Islamic Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Shareef under the theme of "United for Just Solution” will be held by the OIC in Jakarta on March 6 and 7.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is scheduled to attend and deliver a speech at the meeting.

The occupied Palestinian territories have been the scene of heightened tensions triggered by Israel’s imposition in August 2015 of restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds.

More than 190 Palestinians, including children and women, have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning of last October.
