TEHRAN (IQNA) – Special programs marking the Ten-Day Fajr (dawn) that celebrates the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution began across Iran on Thursday.

Addressing one of the programs at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA), on Thursday morning, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Ali Khomeini, a grandson of Imam Khomeini, underlined that the ideals of the Islamic Revolution are alive and cherished by the Iranian people.

It was attended by senior political, religious, cultural and other officials, families of the martyrs of the revolution, and a large number of people.

The program marked the day when Imam Khomeini arrived back home from exile on February 1, 1979.

Imam Khomeini spent more than 14 years in exile, mostly in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf. He also spent some time in Turkey and France before his return to Iran.

The Ten-Day Fajr programs and festivities will culminate in nationwide rallies on February 11, the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

By toppling the US-backed Pahlavi regime 39 years ago, the Iranian nation ended 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The Islamic Revolution established a new political system; a republic based on Islamic values and democracy.
