TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described the recent move by the US to blacklist the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as unwise and foolish and said it aimed to help one win the elections in occupied Palestine.

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, Rouhani said the Zionist regime’s prime minister clearly stated that the US measures has been taken at his request.

He added that the blacklisting of the IRGC and another move by the US to recognize Israel “sovereignty” over Syria’s occupied Golan Heights were illegal actions taken to help someone (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) win the elections in the occupied territories.

The president further highlighted the IRGC’s role in defending freedom in the region and its contribution to the fight against terrorism and said no one will heed the foolish move by the US against IRGC.

The Americans are wrong to think they can separate the Iranian nation and the IRGC, he went on to say.

The Trump administration on Monday designated IRGC as a terrorist group.

Later in the day, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in turn designated US forces in West Asia, known as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), as a terrorist organization.
