TEHRAN (IQNA) – Two mosques in Cardiff, Wales, are to close their doors because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dar-Ul-Isra, in Cathays, announced on Twitter they would be suspending all congregational prayers including Friday prayers until further notice.

The center will be closed from Monday, March 16.

In a statement on Twitter, they wrote: "Dar Ul Isra has taken the difficult decision to CLOSE the centre as of Monday the 16th March .

"All congregational prayers including Juma prayer will stop until further notice.

"This decision was made based on Islamic and medical guidance to protect the wider community.

"We are monitoring the situation daily with the view to reopen the center as soon as it is safe to do so."

The mosque regularly holds prayers for hundreds of people and also holds educational classes.

Another Mosque in Cardiff, Madina Mosque, on Lucas Street, Cathays, has also announced a closure.

They said they will be closing "until further notice".

A statement on social media, wrote: "Due to the current difficult situation that we are faced with, unfortunately we will have to close Madina Masjid until further notice.

Our priority is to keep everyone safe. We are aware that there are elderly members and vulnerable people within the community who will need support, help and aid which may not be accessible to them easily.

"We require volunteers to help us provide support to the vulnerable and elderly possibly to deliver food, medication etc. Please get in touch if you able to provide this much needed help.

"Finally, can we request that everyone takes the appropriate measures that we are all aware to keep ourselves safe and pray that Insha Allah (God willing) we can all get through this safely."

The latest advice from the Muslim Council of Wales, told mosques to plan for the likely suspension of congregational activities.

They advised people to avoid attending if they were mildly unfeeling well and to identify volunteers who were able to support vulnerable people.
