TEHRAN (IQNA) – Palestinian figures and bodies have warned about the consequences of a new decision by the Knesset.

Israeli forces in al-Aqsa Mosque Compound

The education committee of the Israeli regime’s parliament is considering a plan that will force Jewish students to make visits to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to al-Quds al-Arabi.

Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, the Mufti of Jerusalem al-Quds, strongly slammed the decision while addressing the Friday Prayers in the city yesterday.

He said the mosque belongs only to Muslims and no other group is entitled to enter the holy site.

The cleric urged the Islamic Ummah to unite and defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its cause.

The Council of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sanctuaries was among the bodies that issued a statement regarding the new controversial decision.

The council said that the decision is dangerous and can be put in the framework of extremist groups’ attacks against the Mosque.

The move, added the council, seeks to increase the number of those who storm the Mosque and strengthen the idea of the alleged temple in the area.

The purpose of the Zionist regime by desecrating Al-Aqsa Mosque is to ignite a religious war, said the council, noting that the occupying regime should bear all the consequences of the decision.

The compound, Islam’s third-holiest site, is located in the Old City of East al-Quds, which the Israeli regime occupied as part of the entire Palestinian territory of the West Bank during a war in 1967.

The regime has been dotting the territory with hundreds of illegal settlements ever since the occupation.

Israeli settlers already storm the mosque’s compound at least twice every day under full protection of the regime’s forces.
