TEHRAN (IQNA) – The preliminary stage of the 38th edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition will start on Sunday, January 9, here in Tehran.

The competition at this stage is virtual and will be hosted by Basirat complex in the east of Tehran.

The women’s section will be held on January 9 and 10 while the men’s section is slated for January 12 to 15.

Speaking in late October 2021, Mahdi Ghareh Sheikhlu, the head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Affairs Center said that more than 50 countries have introduced their representatives in the competition until then.

The official said the international Quranic event will be organized in four sections for men, women, school students, and the visually impaired.

While the preliminary round will be held remotely, with the contenders’ Quranic skills being assessed while they are in their own country, efforts are being made so that they can attend the final round in person, Ghareh Sheikhlu added.

The preliminary stage was slated to be held simultaneously with the final round of Iran’s 44th National Quran Competition in December 2021 but was postponed.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quranic event with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.

Quran memorizers and reciters from 67 countries took part in the final round of the 37th edition of the contest, which was held on March 6-11.
