TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center in Stockholm, Sweden, has introduced new restrictions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

According to a recent announcement, those aged 18 and above need to present a vaccination certificate to enter the center.

Maintaining social distancing of at least one meter is necessary for those visiting the center, it said.

Visitors will be provided with face masks and sanitizers upon arrival, it added.

The center also stressed that coronavirus patients and those having symptoms are strictly advised not to take part in the center’s programs and activities.

Sweden will extend its current pandemic measures by another two weeks, the minister for health said on Wednesday, as the Omicron variant is spreading at record speed.

The curbs mean bars and restaurants have to close at 2300 and there is a cap of 500 people inside larger indoor venues.

“We have an extremely high level of spread,” Health Minister Lena Hallengren told a news conference. “The restrictions must remain in place for two weeks. If everything goes as planned and if the situation allows, the restrictions will be lifted after that.”

Sweden has seen some 270,000 confirmed cases in the last days but limited testing means the health agency believes the real number could be over half a million.

The spread has put strain on the healthcare system but much less than during previous waves. The number of patients treated in intensive care have been between 90 and 120 people for the past four weeks.

The Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center in Sweden is an independent religious association founded by a group of Shia Muslims in 1997.

The center maintains regular activities such as daily communal prayers, Friday prayers and other religious and cultural celebrations that interest Muslims, especially Shia, in Scandinavia.

It aims to create a more friendly relationship and cooperation with various institutions, including government, to facilitate the integration of Muslims into Swedish society.

The Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center also has an administrative department that offers religious ceremonies, certificates and other services. The Center offers education for children and adolescents, as well.
