TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 28th edition of the Quran competition for Iran’s Basij (volunteer) forces concluded in a ceremony in Tehran on Thursday.

Top winners in different categories were announced awarded at the ceremony, which was attended by senior commanders of the Basij.

The nationwide contest was organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center of Basij in two separate sections for men and women.

The categories of the Quranic event included Quran recitation, memorization and Tarteel.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammadi Shahroudi, the Leader’s representative in Basij, congratulated the Dar-ol-Quran Center for successfully holding the competition.

He also congratulated all of those who took part in the competition and said their participation in the Quranic event was blessing given to them by God.

The cleric further underlined the need to pave the ground for promotion of Quran learning and said it is also important to contemplate the teachings of the Quran and acting upon them.

Basij is a paramilitary volunteer force established in 1979 on Imam Khomeini’s order.

The force consists of often young Iranians, who have volunteered, with a strong sense of fidelity to both the Islamic system and the religious beliefs.
