TEHRAN (IQNA) – The southern city of Shiraz is hosting the final round of the 28th edition of the Iranian Judiciary’s annual Quran contest.

The final stage of the contest got underway in a ceremony at the Shiraz Hotel on Saturday morning.

A message from Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei was read out at the ceremony in which he described the Quran as the everlasting elixir for humanity’s salvation.

He also called for acting upon the sublime teachings of the Holy Book.

Some 300 contenders who won top ranks in the preliminary round are competing in the finals.

They compete in two separate sections for men and women, each in two age groups of under 16 and 16 and older.   

Quran recitation, memorization (at various levels) and Quranic concepts are among the categories of the event.   

The national stage had been planned to be organized two years ago but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Winners will be announced an awarded at the closing ceremony slated for Sunday at Shah Cheragh (AS) mausoleum in the city.
