Mahmoud Abbas sent the copy to Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb as a sign of appreciation for the support of Sheikh of Al-Azhar for the cause of Palestine and the struggle of the Palestinian people, Al-Wafd news website reported.

Mahmoud al-Habbash, the Palestinian Authority president’s adviser on religious and Islamic affairs, in a meeting with Sheikh el-Tayeb in his office in Cairo gifted him the copy on behalf of Mahmoud Abbas.

Mushaf Masjida Al-Aqsa (also known as Mushaf al-Quds) is the copy of the Quran published in Palestine.

Habash said the copy has been published by the Palestinian Authority, adding that it has taken six years to be ready for publication.

The Al-Azhar chief thanked the Palestinian Authority president for the invaluable gift.

Sheikh El-Tayeb also prayed that God will restore peace and security to the people of Palestine.

He called on Arab and Muslim nations to support the Palestinian people in their struggle to regain their rights that have been usurped.
