Currently, the preliminary stage of the competition’s 30th edition is being held in the Persian Gulf Arab country, Jaridah Oman daily reported.

The contenders are competing in memorization of the Holy Quran at seven levels.

They include memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 18 Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book, memorization of 12 Juzes, memorization of six Juzes (for those born in 2007 and later), memorization of four Juzes, and memorization of two Juzes.

Those with the best performance will make it to the final round.

The Quranic event is annually organized in the country by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science, affiliated to the Diwan of Royal Court.

Among the most important objectives of the competition are urging Omanis to memorize and assimilate the Quran, raising a Quranic generation, finding glorified reciters of the Quran who are perfect for its performance and strengthening the Sultanate’s presence in international Quranic competitions.

Oman is a country situated in Southwest Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, and Persian Gulf, between Yemen and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Virtually all Omanis are Muslim.
