Hamid Majidimehr, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Affairs Center, said the qari was selected as the country’s representative in the competition during a recent joint meeting between officials of the center and the Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Qaris.

He noted that the selection was made from among those winning top ranks in Iran’s national Quran competition.

Majidimehr added that the decision was made after considering the conditions and regulations of the annual international Quranic event in Malaysia.

He said Bijani had also been chosen to compete for Iran in the Southeast Asian country’s Quran contest in 2020, but it was called off that year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Malaysia’s international Quran competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), is annually organized in the country’s capital of Kuala Lumpur.

According to Majidimher, the competition will have three stages this year, with the first two stages planned to be held virtually.

The first round, which is an initial qualification stage, will be organized next week, he stated.

The second round, slated for June, will also be organized online with the top contenders competing in the finals in Kuala Lumpur in August, he went on to say.

Born in 1994 in Razavi Khorasan Province, northeast Iran, Bijani has an MA in Quran and Hadith Sciences. He is also a student of Islamic Seminary in Mashhad.

He came first in the international Holy Quran competition of Bangladesh in 2021.

He had also bagged the top prize in Iran’s national Quran competition in 2019.
