The 11th edition of Libya’s international Quran competition concluded in the North African country.

Libya Int’l Quran Contest Wraps Up

 

Winners of the contest were announced and awarded at the closing ceremony, Akhbar al-Libya website reported.

Suhayb al-Habouni from the host country finished as the top winner in the category of memorization of the entire Quran.

Abdul Salam Fathi al-Amrouni, also from Libya, came first in the category of memorization of the entire Quran along with Tafseer (interpretation).

And Adin Shahzad Rahman from the US bagged the top prize in memorization of the entire Quran along with mastery over the ten styles of recitation.

All the contenders as well as organizers of the competition were honored at the closing ceremony.

The contest is annually organized by Libya’s Awqaf (endowments) and Islamic Affairs Department.

The city of Benghazi, the second-most populous city in Libya, hosted the Quranic event on June 4-13.

ibya is a Muslim-majority country in North Africa that has more than a million Quran memorizers.

The country has been in turmoil since a NATO-backed civil war in 2011 overthrew and killed veteran dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Libya has in recent years been split between the government of national unity in Tripoli, and an eastern-based administration.
